Depending on the type and location of the object, removal may involve the use of microsuction, fine micro forceps, or other precision ENT instruments. All procedures are carried out by experienced clinicians, and we will always explain the process and obtain your consent before proceeding.

Common foreign bodies include cotton bud tips, earring backs, silicone earphone components, small beads, and occasionally insects. These can cause discomfort, reduced hearing, or risk of infection if not promptly and properly removed.

If you suspect something is lodged in your ear, we recommend booking an appointment without delay. Most GP practices are not equipped to manage these cases due to the need for specialist tools and training. At our clinic, foreign body removal is a routine procedure performed with care and precision.

Certain behaviors may increase the risk of foreign bodies becoming lodged in the ear canal, including:

• Regular use of earplugs
• Frequent use of earphones, particularly noise-cancelling models with rubber seals
• Insertion of cotton buds into the ear canal
• Sleeping while wearing earrings
• Use of hearing aids

If a foreign object remains in the ear or is improperly removed, it can lead to serious complications such as tympanic membrane (eardrum) perforation, persistent tinnitus, and potentially permanent hearing loss.
